The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl containing several personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate personas, all possessing their own anxieties and drives. These entities can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips depict the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the lobby have large blooms where their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
