Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

Additional Developments

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.

It said missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
